CLINIC

COMMUNITY HEARING SCREENINGS

Our students regularly volunteer their time to offer no-cost hearing screenings to our community. If you or someone you know is concerned about their hearing, please drop by one of the events listed below and the student clinicians will perform a brief screening test which will determine if a more comprehensive hearing assessment is recommended.

Contact wsu.saa1@gmail.com or call 313-577-0631 to request student volunteers to come to your facility to provide free hearing screenings.

The Wayne State Student Academy of Audiology is proud to support our campus clinic. This is where our students' audiology careers begin! In the first month of their graduate studies, Wayne AuD students begin their duties in the campus clinic under the careful tutelage of Dr.'s Kate Marchelletta and Jessica Messer.

If you are aware of an individual who is in need of audiologic services but lacks the financial resources to obtain them, please refer them to our campus clinic.

Dr. Messer graduated from Purdue University in 2011 and completed her externship at Henry Ford Health System, where she today holds the position of Senior Staff Audiologist and Adjunct Faculty at Wayne State University.

Jessica Messer, AuD

In 2010, the Wayne State Audiology program created it's first on-campus audiology clinic. The small clinic has two complete sound-proofed testing booths and is open to the public three days per week.

The need for no-cost audiologic services in the community is evidenced by the clinic's schedule being booked a month in advance.

First year AuD students offer audiologic evaluations to the public at no cost. The campus clinic serves a vital function in both the education of the audiology students and meeting the needs of economically challenged Detroit communities.

Third year AuD students rotate back through the Wayne State clinic performing electrophysiologic testing to the public free of charge. This service is particularly critical to help meet the needs of the Early Hearing Detection & Intervention Program. Infants who failed their hearing screening at the hospital can have their follow-up ABR testing performed without fee.
